Woo! smashCRD!

Hello.

For those of you not 'in the know', smashCRD is a small private project to create a fun crossplatform game. Below is a bunch of information regarding the game.

Some features we want:
- Crossplatform (Loonix / Winders)
- "Smash TV"-like gameplay (see below)
- Two modes of gameplay; Singleplayer and Multiplayer Co-op (over network)

Gameplay:
Is a 'top-down' RTS-like view, where players can use WASD (or their configurated equivalent) to move, and the mouse to aim. Players have an upper torso that rotate independantly to their legs. There will be powerups periodically (through they probably won't show up until quite further in development)

Libs:
The game uses SDL, SDL_image, and OpenGL. As far as I know, we haven't yet decided on a library for networking (though my vote is for SDL_net)

Team members thus far:
- Popdog (coding)
- imbezol (coding)
- o-min (art lead)
- fydo (coding and art)

Have I missed anything? Probably. Post stuff!

Interesting. I'll help with graphics. I understand you are preparing the documentation for images, formats, sizes, dpi, etc.

Here we go... please forgive the 'programmer art'. All files are in .png.

(no moar graphic)
the Player is just a simple 32x32 image that represents the TOP HALF of the player's torso. We'll have a different image for each selectable player (kind of like a player-selectable model in Quake3)

(no moar graphic)
This image file represents the player's legs. It only has 4 directions because the other 4 can be mirrored to create the full 8 directional sprites. The four sprites vertically represent that there are 4 frames to the walking animation. (Should this be increased?)

This file represents an enemy unit. It has a full 8 directions in it.

The "aimer" graphic. In the future we may have this be customizable, but I am currently quite happy with this.

The background (arenas) are stored as a 1024x768 PNG image.
Any questions? :)

I'd like to try the game before I start. Can you send me the .dll's to get it to work.

It's true.

On a completely unrelated note, I beat The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past last night. I am very excited about that. I told all my co-workers. They think I'm very strange. What else is new? :)

What's the status on this project? Are we ready for a Beta Test?

Also, please be aware your image links to: http://www.fydo.net/dev/ are broken :)

lol broken links... MOAR LIKE BROKEN DREAMS!

On a more serious note, I think it's safe to say this project is dead? If anyone is still interested in it, I've still got the C++ code kicking around.
